Human Act Award 2020 goes to Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg was pleased to receive the Human Act Award in 2020 of USD 100.000. It was given to Greta Thunberg - through the Greta Thunberg Foundation - on International Mother Earth Day, 22 April 2020 for her fearless and determined efforts to mobilize millions of people around the world to fight climate change.

The purpose of the Human Act Award is to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals Decade of Action.

The Human Act Award is awarded for a passionate changemaker who is dedicated to take action on the world’s most pressing issues.

The Human Act Award is given by an independent foundation, Human Act, instituted in 2016 in Denmark.

The first Human Act Award will be awarded in 2020 in the context of the SDG Decade of Action and consists of a diploma and a cash award of USD 1 million spread over 10 years. The Award also include a sculpture with the name of the laureates.

The award will be given with a cash price of USD 100 000 for ten years between 2020-2030.

The winner(s) will be announced latest by International Mother Earth Day (22 April) each year.

The Founders of Human Act, Djaffar Shalchi and Ané Maro, identify the first laureate.

Each Human Act Award laureate will identify next year's laureate together with the Founders of Human Act.

Laureate(s) dispose of the cash award as they see fit.

The laureate(s) acknowledge the receipt of the Human Act Award in their social media networks or other communications channels.

The annual award ceremony will take place in Copenhagen in connection with an event in which the laureate(s) participates to receive the diploma and the sculpture.

Each year´s laureate(s) will hand over the sculpture to the following year´s laureate during the award ceremony.

Let’s Move Humanity for Children in the Fight Against Coronavirus

Greta Thunberg will donate the prize money of USD 100,000 to the UNICEF campaign through the Greta Thunberg foundation. Human Act will match this donation with an additional USD 100,000 for the total sum of USD 200,000 in support of UNICEF’s work.
