Human Act in Nepal
On 25 April and 12 May 2015, Nepal suffered a devastating earthquake, killing nearly 9,000 people and injuring nearly 22,000.
The earthquake on 12 May 2015 hit the Dolakha district of Nepal. Hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless, with entire villages flattened. Dolakha’s public and private schools experienced the third highest levels of damage among the 14 priority districts.
Several years later – not much has happened, and the ongoing construction of schools by other foreign NGO´s where being built, at a cost of approximately 500-600 USD pr. square meter. our experience with construction told us that the price should be approximately 200-300 USD pr. square meter.
Therefore, Human Act decided to set up projects in Dolakha district, to prove that it can be done more efficient, with the same quality and at a third of the price
Human Act wants to build low-cost and earthquake resistant school buildings in remote areas. The schools we support, often do not even have connecting road access.
Human Act is currently locating and helping families in Dolakha district rebuilding their homes.
Construction of the Schools and private homes of the families are financed by the Human Act foundation.
Constructing school buildings
To show an example of how to build low-cost and earthquake resistant buildings, we have as the first project funded a three-classroom building at Guranse Primary School. The school educates 65 children from nursery to class five. The school experienced severely damage during the earthquake, and the children currently do not have proper education facilities.
